Lanzamiento Concurso de Cartas Nuestra Voz en la COP30

El Concurso de Cartas Nuestra Voz en la COP30 es una iniciativa del Pulitzer Center que busca conectar historias periodísticas sobre nuestros bosques, océanos y la relación entre clima y trabajo con la acción cívica y escritura creativa de los jóvenes de Latinoamérica. Nuestro objetivo es transformar los reportajes que el Pulitzer Center apoya en impacto ambiental de cara a la COP30, buscando soluciones a los problemas ambientales que enfrenta nuestra región, proponiendo acciones ante tomadores de decisiones en las negociaciones climáticas frente a las problemáticas inspiradas en los reportajes e historias sobre bosques, océanos y clima y trabajo.

¿A quién va dirigido el Concurso de Cartas?

El concurso de cartas será lanzado el próximo 1 de julio y estará abierto a todos los jóvenes (15 a 24 años) que residan en cualquier país de América Latina. Aceptamos cartas escritas en español y portugués.

Workshop for Educators: Connecting Students to AI Accountability News Stories

The Information and Artificial Intelligence Teacher Advisory Council [...]

The Information and Artificial Intelligence Teacher Advisory Council was a Pulitzer Center Education program established in response to teacher feedback and data about the challenges and opportunities that exist when trying to engage students in conversation about AI technologies and their impacts on society. 78% of educators surveyed through our K-12 newsletter and social media channels believed their students need to learn about AI but only 20% of educators surveyed reported frequently having conversations about AI in the classroom. Just 26% of educators surveyed reported feeling equipped enough to lead conversations about AI technologies and their impact with students. The AI Teacher Advisory Council rose to the challenge of resourcing educators with key understandings about AI and Pulitzer Center-funded reporting on AI Accountability through the development of classroom toolkits to support teacher and student understanding of the impact of artificial intelligence in their schools and communities.

On October 10, 2024, AI Teacher Advisory Council Members Jodi Hoard, Kerri-Jean Furtado, Jane Lawrence, and Linda Matsumoto, presented the toolkits to an educator audience for the first time, detailing their experience exploring news stories about AI Accountability, creating resources to support other educators in doing the same, and engaging their students with AI Accountability through implementation of the AI Classroom Toolkits.

The workshop helped to define and identify examples of AI Accountability reporting for educators, detailing how stories from Accountability Network members like Hilke Schellmann, Arijit Sen, and Joanna Kao resonated with students in the classroom. Presenters centered student voices in the classrooms and the real world connections students made to the reporting.

Audience members resonated with the kinds of questions students were asking in the Council Members’ classrooms and began making their own connections about which AI Accountability news stories may be most relevant for their student populations. 100 % of educators surveyed following the webinar reported that they would utilize the AI Accountability Toolkits in their classrooms when available.Show More

Despite rising temperatures, progress in policies to protect workers from extreme heat has been slow. This session will examine the advancements and ongoing challenges in developing heat protection policies for workers. Speakers:
Shagun Kapil is a special correspondent with Down To Earth, India’s premier environment and development magazine. She reports on the intersections of climate change and development and livelihoods, rural communities, agriculture, and food systems.
Jason Lee is an associate professor at the Yong Loo Lin School of Medicine, National University of Singapore. He co-leads the Human Potential Translational Research Programme and directs the Heat Resilience and Performance Centre.
Jani Purnawanty has been a lecturer in undergraduate and postgraduate programs and a researcher since 1998. Her expertise includes international trade law, the law of treaties, cyber law, and bioethics in the cross-cutting issues perspective. Purnawanty is active in several study centers, including the Airlangga Institute for International Law Studies (AIILS), Study Group on Law and Technology, law supporting SDGs, anti-corruption and criminal law policy, and renewable and sustainable energy.
Achmad Dahlan is an experienced safety and health professional with extensive leadership roles in the oil and gas industry. He serves as the HSSE (Health, Safety, Security, and Environment) performance manager at PT Pertamina (Persero). His career spans over two decades, with a strong focus on safety engineering, risk management, and human performance in both national and international contexts.
Moderator: Grenti Paramitha is the Pulitzer Center's program manager for education in Southeast Asia.
