Can AI Predict the Commercial Value of the Next Scientific Breakthrough?
There is a vast amount of under-utilized science in universities worldwide —research that could significantly improve lives, while also holding immense economic potential for firms.
But how can we measure the commercial potential of scientific discoveries?
Professors Wesley Cohen and Sharique Hasan of Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, along with Fuqua PhD Roger Masclans-Armengol, developed new AI models to predict the probability that a scientific paper might be a source of economic value for firms.
The researchers developed a public tool, scientifiq.ai, that provides a commercial-potential score of scientific research, predicting outcomes like technology licensing, startup formation, and revenue.
