Amnesty International’s latest research has concluded that the Cambodian government is aware of scamming compounds across the country where trafficking victims and migrant workers are subjected to forced criminality, enslavement, deprivation of liberty and torture.

Amnesty International has identified more than 50 scamming compounds, locations where human trafficking victims and migrant workers are subjected to enslavement, forced labour, torture and deprivation of liberty across the country. It is highly likely that more compounds exist than those in this report.

The Cambodian government has investigated 21 of the scamming compounds featured in our report, often making multiple rescues from the sites over years.
Despite this, our report shows that scamming compounds frequently continue to operate with human rights abuses documented after police investigations.

Ultimately, we concludes that the Cambodian state was aware that these compounds existed and did not fulfil their obligations to investigate and to shutter to them. Their failure is so severe that it amounts to aquiescence to the abuses and points to what could be complicity.

Climate change is causing unnatural disasters which are killing people in Pakistan, but many of its victims remain invisible.
Floods in 2022 and 2024 displaced entire villages overnight, leaving families stranded without food, clean water, or shelter. Children and older people were most at risk due to rapidly spreading disease, but their deaths often went uncounted.
Through gripping testimonies from flood survivors, this film exposes the harsh realities of climate-driven disasters. Abdul Latif lost his three-year-old son, Ashiq Ali, to flood-related illness but his death, like thousands of others, was never officially recorded.
Aqel, a diabetic older woman, struggled to access healthcare during the floods, leading to the amputation of her leg. Seeta, Khatoon, and Khalid recount the loss of their loved ones, stories that would otherwise go unheard.
Despite contributing just 1% to global emissions, Pakistan is one of the most vulnerable countries to climate disasters. Underfunded healthcare and disaster response systems are overwhelmed when catastrophe strikes, leaving communities to fend for themselves.
Amnesty International travelled to Sindh Province to document the lives that have gone uncounted. Without official recognition, climate victims remain unseen by governments, policymakers, and institutions meant to protect them.

Dejana Dexi Stošić (she/her) is an educator and activist based in [...]

Dejana Dexi Stošić (she/her) is an educator and activist based in Serbia. Her work focuses on gender-based violence, with an emphasis on sexual violence affecting women and girls.

She is working with and for girls and the programme that she helped established, called “SOS Girls Corner”, won the 2020 With and For Girls award. From 2018 to 2020 Dejana was the Serbian ambassador in the Women Against Violence of Europe network.

In 2021 she made the hashtag #NisamPrijavila (#IDidntReport) on Twitter, where she explained why she didn’t report sexual violence. In just three days more than 21,000 women used the hashtag to share their own experiences of violence they had not reported.

Currently Dejana works as an educator and peace activist, often speaking out against nationalistic rhetoric and the glorification of war criminals. She believes in people, magic and love, and hopes that one day each of us will be free, because no one is free until we all are.

“We are passing the skills to new generations, to younger girls who are going to continue the work.”
